
TANZANIA NOTHERN CIRCUIT SAFARI
Northern Tanzania’s parks have put this region on the tourist map, with famed Northern circuits taking in the most popular parks and protected areas in the country, they include
ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Although it is one Tanzania’s smallest parks, it’s also the most beautiful and topographically varied. Its main features include Ngurdoto Crater (Little Ngorongoro) and the Momella Lakes to the East, to the West you see the beautiful Mt. Meru, and a narrow strip joins the two, with Momella gate at its center. The park altitude varies from 1,500m to more than 4,500m, has a variety of vegetation zones supporting numerous animal species.
LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

The park is located on your way to the Ngorongoro area, with a view of the Great Rift Valley, and the striking setting and peaceful surroundings, its main attractions are its superb bird life, its tree climbing lions, and its hippo’s, which you can observe at close range here than most of other places.
There are also Elephants, although the population has been declining in recent years, the park which is between 900m and 1,800m above sea level, is bordered to the west by the dramatic western escarpment of the rift valley, to the east is the alkaline lake Manyara, which at certain times of the year hosts ten of thousands of flamingos, as well as a diversity of other bird life, depending on the season, about two-thirds of the park’s total 330sq km area is covered by the Lake Manyara, despite the parks small size, its vegetation is diverse, ranging from savanna to marshes and acacia woodland, enabling it to support a remarkable variety of habitats.
TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
A beautiful, Baobab studded Tarangire park stretches south east of Lake Manyara around the Tarangire river, like the Lake Manyara, Tarangire park is not more than a day visit as part of the large northern circuit, though its worth longer time to enjoy the park. The park is a classic dry area destination, particularly between August and October, when it has the highest concentration of wildlife, large heard of Zebras, Wildebeest, hartebeest, and mostly Elephants can be found until October, when the short wet season allows them to move on to new grasslands.
For the lovers of birdwatchers the best time to visit the park is between October and May, with more than 300 different species recorded. As the park is part of an extended ecosystem where animals roam freely, it includes the large Mkungunero Game Controlled Area to the South, and the Lolkisale Game Controlled Area, to the Northeast, and doing walks and night game drives in the Lolkisale area, with local villagers helps in the local benefiting from the activities.
NGORONGORO CRATER

Ngorongoro is Tanzania’s most visited destinations, and also one of Africa’s best known wildlife viewing areas, at about 20km wide, it is also one of the largest calderas in the world, it’s steep unbroken walls provide the setting for and incredible natural drama, as Lions, Buffalos, Elephants and plain herbivores such as Thompson gazelles, Reedbucks, Wildebeests, and zebras graze, stalk and otherwise make their way around the grasslands, swamps and forests on the Crater floor, and chances are good that you will also be able to see the Black Rhino’s
Despite the Craters steepness, there is still considerable movement of wildlife in and out, with the permanent water and grassland on the crater floor. Animals and Birds share the crater with the local Masaai communities, who have grazing rights, and you will come across them pasturing their cattle.
The best time to have the best view in the crater is early in the morning, where you can get a good sighting point, and let the crater’s environment come to you.
